Author Interview with Thaddeus Tuffentsamer on The Further Reminiscences of Sherlock Holmes

Thaddeus Tuffentsamer made a name for himself in the Sherlockian community with his highly successful story collection, The Retrospections of Sherlock Holmes. Now Mr. Tuffentsamer is back with a new collection of Holmes stories available on Kickstarter. 

I interviewed the author to find out more about his latest collection of adventures.

Tell us a little about Further Reminiscences. What further adventures from Dr. Watson will readers discover in the book?  

Thaddeus Tuffentsamer (TT): We have a client who has just inherited his late uncle’s estate, and when the staff refuse to speak of his uncle, and are more concerned over a tiger cub that died he seeks Holmes’s help in finding out what is amiss.  

Another story is written by Holmes himself when he received a client who asks his advice in dealing with a man who claims to be from the future and is trying to prevent his daughter’s death. Holmes solves this one from the chair while Watson is out.  

The third is an adventure where Mycroft hires Holmes to steal the African Crown Jewel from the British museum to help avoid a diplomatic dilemma.  Watson had said if Holmes had turned his mind to crime he would be formidable. We get to see a glimpse of that in this story, for King and country, of course. 

Next is the Giant Rat of Sumatra, a novella taking up a third of the overall book. Set six weeks after Watson begins to share rooms with Holmes. What do Holmes, Watson, Moriarty and the Island of Doctor Moreau all have to do with a giant rat?  

And finally, another Joseph Bell and Doyle story. When a bumbling private consulting detective (Sheringford Hope) and his chronicler stumble over a fresh crime scene, Bell and Doyle are asked to come lend their talents.

What made you decide to write another collection of Sherlock Holmes stories?

I love writing Holmes and Watson! The timeless honesty of them and the pure joy of exercising logic while writing the stories makes me stretch my own mind and observational skills, which in turn sharpen what I do in my professional life.  I can’t imagine not continuing to add my pen to the canon. 

Any last thoughts?

I am looking forward to playing The Great Game of Sherlock Holmes when it comes out and the many exciting new adventures Belanger Books has planned for our favorite detective. Thank you for making so much available.
